Hong Kong Business Delegation Meets with St. Petersburg Governor

St. Petersburg Governor Georgy Poltavchenko met at Smolny today with a delegation from The Better Hong Kong Foundation led by Chairman of Hang Lung Properties Ltd. Ronnie Chan. The business delegation’s visit to Russia is being supported by the Roscongress Foundation.

The meeting participants discussed prospects for cooperation between St. Petersburg and the Foundation in the implementation of investment projects.

Poltavchenko noted that China ranks first among St. Petersburg’s trading partners and is a major investor in the city’s economy. In 2017, trade turnover amounted to USD 5.9 billion, and this volume is constantly growing.

“St. Petersburg is open to cooperation with foreign investors. A large number of infrastructure projects are slated to be implemented in the near future. The city is providing its partners with a number of benefits and preferences”, Poltavchenko said.

One of the most promising areas for investment, the Governor noted, is the construction of high-tech innovative production facilities in the Special Economic Zone and the city’s industrial sites, where all the necessary infrastructure has been prepared at the expense of the city budget. Transport infrastructure and a medical cluster will also be developed in the city with investments.

Ronnie Chan announced his desire to invest in the economy of St. Petersburg. Projects to develop hotel infrastructure are of particular interest. Poltavchenko stressed that the city is ready to actively cooperate with Hong Kong in this area in accordance with the Hotel Industry Development Programme that was adopted in 2017.

The Governor instructed the relevant committees to work out specific proposals for cooperation with Hong Kong companies.
