The Russian Government’s Transport Commission has approved the
construction of a bridge to Yelena Island in Vladivostok, Minister for the
Development of the Russian Far East Alexander Kozlov announced during Days of
the Far East Festival in Moscow.
The construction of the bridge was included in a programme to repair and
build bridges, overpasses, and artificial structures on roads of regional,
inter-municipal, and local importance into significance by 2035. The draft
document covers more than 1,000 bridge crossings in the Far East.
The bridge to Yelena Island will become one of the most important components
of the Vladivostok Ring Road (VKAD), which will connect the city’s central
district and the Egersheld area, where the commercial sea port is located, to Russky
Island. The project will help the port increase cargo turnover and deliver
goods via the bypass through Russky Island instead of the city’s main
thoroughfares and will alleviate traffic by private vehicles.
The final decision on the construction of the Vladivostok Ring Road was
announced at the 5th Eastern Economic Forum, where the Far East Investment
and Export Agency and Avtodor-Invest signed an agreement to prepare for and
implement a project for the construction and operation of the western half ring
of the VKAD. The project will be implemented under a concession agreement and
will have total estimated investment of RUB 100 billion.
The 6th Eastern Economic Forum will be held on 2–5 September
2020 in Vladivostok.
